Statistics in the Community (STATCOM) at Michigan State University

Statistics in the Community (STATCOM) is a registered student organization at MSU.
 

Mission:   The mission of the Statistics in the Community (STATCOM) Network is:

  • To provide pro bono statistical consulting to local nonprofit, governmental, and community service organizations

  • To engage students in voluntary, service-oriented statistical consulting and leadership.

  • To promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in our local communities.

 Vision:  The vision of the Statistics in the Community (STATCOM) Network is:

  • To apply statistical methods and principles to have a positive impact on communities and institutions that serve those communities

  • To increase communication and collaboration among student statisticians engaged in service-oriented statistics.

CSTAT supports STATCOM and mentors the volunteer student consultants. 

Members: Graduate students from quantitative sciences and advanced undergraduate students with a solid statistics background. New members: If you would like to join, please email cstatinf@msu.edu and sign up at RSO website: https://msu.campuslabs.com/engage/organization/statcom Typically, project teams consist of 2-3 students with a team leader chosen among them, and there are regular all-group meetings during the semesters. Constitution

Background: Statistics in the Community (STATCOM) is a student-run volunteer organization started in 2001 at Purdue University's Department of Statistics.  With support from a Member Initiatives Grant from the American Statistical Association (ASA), a network of Statistics in the Community (STATCOM) programs was started in 2006.
